Congratulations to the Riverside Grooms Cooperative that sold Lot 304 at the 2011 National Yearling Sales for R1.4m! The Chairman of the Riverside Co-op, Mr. A. Carelse from Riverton Stud, says that he has been involved with horses for 28 years and knows that this doesn't happen every year. They are delighted and thank buyer Mike De Kock and Adrian Todd the man behind the Thoroughbred Transformation Programme, the DTI, the MEC for Agriculture and Klawervlei Stud who sold them the colt as a weanling!
G3 GODOLPHIN BARB STAKES
Hard Rock evidently caught everyone unawares when he won his Clairwood 1200m debut race at odds of 66/1 in March, but the colt proved that to have been no fluke whatsoever when he returned to the same course on Sunday and retained his spotless record by winning the Godolphin Barb Stakes over 1000m, writes MATTHEW LIPS.
Hard Rock is trained by Deon Visser, a relative newcomer to the KZN training ranks after a career which inter alia saw him train for a while during the Sudan's short-lived experiment with horse racing.
Hard Rock is a colt by National Emblem. He is the seventh foal and sixth winner produced from Dominion Royale mare Queen Of Rubies, who won three races over 1200/1600m. Bred by Riverton Stud and acquired for R150 000 at the 2010 National Yearling Sales, Hard Rock's two wins from two outings have earned stakes of R118 664. Congratulations to owner Wikus Roets.
